About PD Mosaic

PD Mosaic is your place for anytime, anywhere professional development!

The tiles on the website are categorized according to daily teaching actions – such as evaluation or classroom management. They offer a range of resources from videos of teachers in their classrooms to theory and everything in between! If you do not find what you are looking for, you can submit your own ideas for tiles at the bottom of each page.

PD Mosaic also offers the opportunity to reflect on your own professional development. There are two ways you can do this:

  • Survey Tool – you can answer questions about everyday teaching actions and how technology fits in. You can see your results at any time when you are logged in to the system. Each time you complete a tile, you can resubmit an answer. In this way, you can keep track of your learning over time.
  • Note Taking – each tile offers a space to keep notes on what you learn.

PD Mosaic is really for anyone who wants to expand their professional development opportunities:

  • For teachers, you can customize your PD according to your needs;
  • For consultants, you can also customize your own PD and review different approaches for supporting the educators in your community;
  • For administrators, the interface provides comparative statistics which can improve response plans and support educators (and you can customize your own PD as well!).

There’s a team of pedagogical consultants who review the user-suggested PD Tiles before they are approved. Ultimately, the final decision to publish a PD Tile or not will fall upon a CSSMI employee.
No. Your PD Mosaic is your own. A centre director can see how many members of the centre’s staff have checked off a PD Tile as something they want to learn or have learned, but he or she cannot see any names attached to any PD Tile in any way. Mind you, if you share PD Mosaic information using Twitter, Facebook or any other tool that allows you to publish information, your director, along with the whole planet, might figure out what it is you did with PD Mosaic.
A Provincial priority can only be established by the Direction de l’éducation des adultes et de l’action communautaire (DÉAAC); it is a PD Tile that DÉAAC wishes every educator in the province would eventually check off as “Got It!” once the content is learned. A School Board priority can be determined by a SB director or pedagogical consultant (with a validated account) and represents essentially the same thing, but on a SB level. The centre priority can only be determined by a director with a validated account.
PD Mosaic uses the official list of public Quebec learning establishments found on the GDUNO (Gestion des données uniques des organismes) database. If you centre or school is not on that list, it most likely not in our database either. Some establishments are actually pavilions or satellites of some other centre; our list contains the centres that have an official entry in the GDUNO list.
The Teacher Professional Competencies refer to content that can be found in “Teacher Training: Orientations, Professional Competencies” published by the Gouvernement du Québec in 2001.
PD Mosaic is a special project, and a special project comes from a special budget… There are no guarantees that the CSSMI will be offered the necessary budgets to improve PD Mosaic.
